Skins of the vegetables are too nutritious for health. This recipe was carried over from generations to generations in our family. In earlier days they don't use to waste any vegetable and they made delicious dishes with all the vegetable as a whole.Don't think it is the skin and it will not taste good...Just try out the recipe then you will throw away the ridgegourd preserving the skin!!!!This goes very well with hot steamed rice and also with rasam/Curd rice. You can also use it as a spread for the dosa and breads....

Arisi Paruppu Sundal(PasiParuppu/greengram dhal Rice)
This is one of my favourite rice, that I cook most of the time.It is very easy to make and don't need any special items to make. Its taste and the aroma of the dhal will make you to finish off the dish. This is a perfect lunch that you can give for your kids. They call it as Arisi Paruppu Sundal..It is named Sundal because the rice grains and the dhal won't get smashed after cooking. When I run out of vegetables I make this rice and serve it with raita.

Ginger (Inji ) Thuvaiyal
Earlier when i started to make this thuvaiyal I was not confident about the outcome of the taste. As ginger itself is very strong in its taste,I was scared whether the thuvaiyal also would be too strong to taste. After getting the recipe from my aunty(native of tirunelveli),I tried it out and was a great success. It tastes very good with the hot hot steamed rice and also with Sodhi.Themild taste of the sodhi and the hot taste of the ginger thuvaiyal goes on hand in hand.Infact you can have once in 15 days to upright our digestive system
String Hoppers/Idiyappam
It is my favourite dish.As it is steam cooked it is safe to have at all times.Earlier in my childhood days i will be very happy when i fall sick, because my mom use to give me idiyappam and milk(cow's milk). It goes very well with the Sodhi,Potato stew,Chicken thani kulambu,Coconut milk. The same idiyappam if it remains much i used to make lemon sevai,Karam sevai or a sweet sevai out of it as a evening dish for my kids.

Bittergourd Fritters
Bittergourd is one of the vegi which most of them avoid eating because of its bitterness. The recipe that I had loaded takes away all the bitterness and moreover the crispness will make u to eat more of this vegetable. This vegi is very good for our health as it kills most of the bad germs inside the stomach. So it is advisable to have the bitterguard once in 15 days..It is very easy to make and tastes very good with Curd rice.

Tirunelveli Sodhi/Mapillai Sodhi
First I thank to Saradha's mother(who does fantastic Sodhi) for sharing this authentic Tirunelveli dish. This is also called Mapillai Sodhi because the bride's mother makes this particular dish to the bride groom on the 2nd day after the marriage. This is to please the groom by serving him with Sodhi. If one attends any Saiva Pillaimar's marriage they can find this dish being served.
Many of them just drink sodhi like a rasam. This is slightly heavy and hence it need to eaten with ginger chutney to overcome the digestion problems!!!
I actually make Sodhi in the afternoon and serve it with hot rice.Later I preserve the remaining for the dinner. We usually have idiyappam(Rice Noodles) served with this sodhi for dinner
Have Sodhi and will surely be touched by the taste!!!!

Palak Paneer
Spinach and Roti combinations go on like a bride and a bride groom combination. They taste too good. This recipe can be replaced with boiled potatoes too.Spinach is a very good source of Iron and vitamins and Paneer is a rich source of Calcium. So this roti and subjee combination is a well balanced diet.I had described my own version of Palak Paneer. They are various methods of preparation and i find this very tasteful...

Mint-Coriander Rice
I hated this green rice until i learnt this method from one of my friend at Erode. There is a little difference when we add shallots to it..The whole taste gets changed and it doesn't taste like a rice mixed with Coriander/Mint chutney. Most of the kids are hesitant towards the green leaves and this is the best way to make kids eat. They are very colourful, attractive and also tastes very good. They are the best lunch box items to be packed for ur hubby n children. This particular rice comes on my dining table atleast once in 10 days.

Colocasia/Arbi/Sembu/Cheppankizhangu Fry
It is the root part that we consume. It belongs to " kizhangu" variety. All other kizhangus cause some gaseous problem. But this particular vegetable is of more medicinal use.We can make many varieties of food with this.Earlier during my childhood days my grandma used to give me saying that we could do maths with greater speed if we consume this vegetable.Hence i use to call this as maths kaai(maths vegetable).Even now i call it as Maths kaai and my kids know them only by this name.People of Southern Tamilnadu call them as Sembu while northern tamilnadu call them as Cheppankizhangu. The fry goes very well with Curd rice and also tastes great when accompanied with Sambar sadam.
Some people are hesitant to get this vegetable thinking it will cause itch to the tongue..I can promise you that this variety don't cause such irritations. You can confidently try out this recipe .....
