Curd Rice/Thayir Sadham

I can survive with curd rice alone. My lunch is complete only with a curd rice.My daughters love to have them for their packed lunch. So most of the time at home I end up making roti,a subji and curd rice..After getting married to a Brahmin guy I got used of making the curd rice very often at home.HH haves curd with all stuff including Dosa, idly, upma n even Tamarind rice.So it had become a common dish at home.

Curd is very essential for the growing children. They have a bacteria which helps in the digestion process. My doctor advised to give curd for my kid from 8 months on wards...

I was much hesitant to post this very common dish..But one of my friend wanted me to post it..So this post is for the new ones entering the kitchen..

Pista Kulfi

Summer had started and we can feel the scorching heat..After the inconsistent power cuts I avoided getting ice-creams from shops. But u cannot deny your kids request for the ice-creams...

Kulfi/Qulfi ..the name itself brings a pleasant chill mood ..If I hadn't started this cooking blog I would have ended at purchasing the kulfi from the shops.I am so happy that I keep trying many new recipes for my blog and some had resulted exceptionally good...

One sunny morning we felt like tasting a nice ice-creams..so immediately browsed few recipes for the kulfi..most of it called for condensed milk..But I omitted it and tried with the regular milk and the taste was so yummy that I couldn't resist eating only one!!

It is such an easy recipe..and far far healthier than the ones that are sold at shops..
So try this summer special Pista Kulfi and cool yourself..

Panna Cotta (Vanilla-Eggless)

(P.S..Very tempting recipe..people who are in diet...please don't look at the shots!!)

I happened to taste this exotic and rich dessert at one of the hotels at Tuticorin. It was so appealing and also tasted too good after a spicy dinner..Next day morning I browsed for the recipe of the dish and was surprised to see the procedure. It was so simple and easy to make...Never ever thought I could make an Italian dish at home...That weekend for a small get together at home I served my friends with this delicious dish and got a great warm applause from all of them ..

Panna Cotta is an Italian dessert made by simmering together cream, milk sugar mixing with gelatin, and letting it to cool till it gets set..I didn't serve it with any coulis and served it simply as such..with a few pomegranates on it.Usually they are served with some sort of coulis like strawberry, blueberry etc..
Panna cotta means "cooked cream" in Italian language..

A perfect dessert for any party..

This is a  very rich dessert and can have once in a while ...Kids will love to have this chilled dessert..And also u will not stop till u finish the bowl and will definetely crave for the next!!

Dedicate this post to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose! Vemicelli(Semiya) Payasam

Today(23 rd January) is Subhash chandra Bose's Birthday. He is the only freedom fighter whose birthday I remember till now!!(Of course since Oct 2 is a holiday I remember Gandhi's Bday!!!but not for his deeds!!)I adore him so much that at my young ages I wanna become Netaji..I was crazy about him and I started collecting all his pictures and stories that appeared in magazines and daily newspaper. For my daughter S's first fancy dress competition I dressed up as netaji..I don't have any one specific reason to point out my worship towards Netaji...Been born to a strict follower of Netaji (I meant my lovable dad here)I had been brought up by hearing all stories related to Netaji from my grandfathers and dad.I am also happy(and of course proud!!) to mention that my great grandfather(Mom's side) left to singapore to join his army..and he was one of the proud soldier at Netaji's army..
Unlike other prominent leaders of Indian freedom struggle,Netaji strongly believed that an armed rebellion was necessary to wrest independence from the British. His famous words"Jai Hind" and "Give my blood,I will give you freedom"are still echoing!!
Even today the death of Subashji is a big puzzle. But I have a different story on it..I heard from my grandpa that he was put into prison in India by some of the prominent Indian leaders who were on the other side of the freedom struggle!!to take in the credit of acquiring to themself. But in reality British got scared of Indian Army and ran away!!So I personally feel that the freedom that we enjoy now is the one obtained by the great leader Subash Chandra Bose...
An update:Happened to watch a discussion at Thanithi news channel about netaji's death..for more click the link below
