Vegetable Kurma-Saravana Bhavan Style..

Living in a non-metro town is always an advantage in all aspects..Though we got many chances to shift to a metro city both me and my hubby were fasinated by the non-metro life....Starting right from mettur to Tuticorin I loved the place where we lived..

I had earlier posted in my Kara chutney post about the Saravana Bhavan opened in Punnai Nagar,a place near Tuticorin..I had told u that I got the recipe from the chef who is working there.Similarly last month we visited Thiruchendur and had our dinner at Saravana Bhavan,Punnai nagar (The native place of the owner of Saravana Bhavan)....My daughter usually orders South Indian Parotta..which is accompanied by 2 types of kurma..The kurma was so tempting and was also tasty..Luckily on that day again I peeped into the kitchen (There was no one except our family there!!It was a week day!!)to give a word of appreciation of a dish...and silently asked about the grinded masala..He just gave a quick ingredients list...I grasped it and tried it the next week...My mom had it for roti and with a big smile she told it matched with the taste of the hotel..I was so happy that day..

I thought i should share it with the blog readers so that you can make n relish the kurma of the restaurant style..

Orange Punch-orange n carrot drink

Summer is very severe and feel like drinking only fresh juices.Children demand colourful juices.Instead of giving them the same plain orange juice I made a mixture of orange and carrot juice with little punch of ginger in it.To make it more healthier I avoided sugar and added honey to it.The taste was awesome and also soothing for this hot summer.

Try this punchy orange fanta and cool yourself..

Gajar Ka Halwa/Carrot Halwa

Last week I was held up with my elder daughter's mid term assessments..I am fed up with the system of exams and assessments that they do at schools in India.Though the school claims it of ICSE syllabus, their examination system just tests the memory power and mugging up power of the kids!!!The systems are terrific and my daughter just hate to sit and write her exams!!!

You would have been wondering what carrot halwa has to do with the education systems!!Saindavi,my elder one who is in grade III have a hindi poem on Gajar Ka Halwa...I was teaching her the poem for her assessment and she suddenly asked me to bribe her with carrot halwa for her to finish off the poem..I was happy that I could club her desire with adding that recipe to the blog!!

Carrot Halwa/Gajar Ka Halwa is a traditional punjabi dish made with carrots and milk.Carrots are simmered in milk and sugar till evaporated. It can be had either cold or warm.I love to have it as cold Icecream+Hot Gajar Ka Halwa..lovely combination to taste!!I always add less sweet so that my kids would take them in larger quantity. It is very easy to make and in whatever way u make it tastes very yummy..

Aviyal/Avial

I had not tasted aviyal till I got married .Of course had heard about it but didn't have a chance to taste it.HH likes this traditional brahmin style aviyal  a lot ,But I don't like aviyal at all!!!.I use to wonder how can it be a sidedish for an Adai..
Since HH liked it much I was intended to learn the process of making it.When compared to other sidedishes the method of preparation of this aviyal is very easy and doesn't take much of our time.As the dish calls for much of coconut grinded I don't make very often at home.

HH likes to have curd with all food...esp with Dosa,Idly,Uppuma,Roti etc..After my marriage it was very odd for me to take curd with dosa.I can have curd separately but not with dosa!!May be the people who love curd will love to have this aviyal. As we add curd to this dish,it cannot stay good for more hours. Moreover reheating the dish reduces the flavour of the dish and sometimes it may cause the curd to cuddle!!!
