Millets payasam /Thinai payasam

"Wishing you all a very happy pongal..."

Celebrate this pongal with millets. This is an authentic dish from Coimbatore region and it tastes very delicious.Try out this yummy and healthy payasam which tastes more delicious than the other rice/dhal payasam...The texture is somewhat similar to rava payasam and tastes little similar(more yummier) than the pasi paruppu(Moong dhal payasam).

Finger Millet Vada /Ragi Vadai....Kovai Special

Ragi/Finger millet is very rich in fiber and you won't feel hungry for long time if you have this millet.I have the habit of including this millet in my day to day menus to make it as a habit for my kids to have it regularly.

I had already posted few recipes made of this millet like Ragi Semiya Uppuma,Ragi Poori..

Though the colour is not appetizing don't underestimate the taste and flavour that ragi could give you...

Ragi/Finger Millet vadai is one of the most common snack of Coimbatore region.Yesterday surprisingly here in Tuty it was raining and schools were closed on this regard :) Kids wanted some snack for their evening and made these for them. With a ketchup they finished the plate and didn't disturb me for the next few hours..

It is easy to make snack as it requires no grinding of batter...

Make these healthy Vada and start using millets in your daily routine..

Arisi Paruppu Sadham (Coimbatore special)

I prefer one pot meal than an elaborate lunch..In that series I have a special love for this lentils rice.Though this rice calls for very less number of ingredients the taste is unexplainable. It is less spicy and apt one for the kids..I had been at Coimbatore for more than 7 years..I happened to taste many kinds of this lentil rice at almost all of my friend’s house.I liked all the variations ..It tastes so good when it is hot and had with buttermilk/mango thokku.A very simple rice to make and also has all the healthy aspects.
Anyone who had tasted this rice will not deny the fact that it tastes exotic..

Simple to make yet yummy is the taste
Try this out at ur home ..

Mushroom Kurma/Gravy

Again Mushrooms...Mushrooms are my favourite as they are 0% fat and 100% protein rich. After getting married to Hari I was made to sacrifice the non vegetarian items.I do have it at restaurants but don't make it at home.So having mushrooms(Luckily they don't get branded as non veg in Hari's family) at home made me to forget the tasty chicken and mutton. This recipe tastes similiar to that of the mutton gravy. The method of preparation is also same as that of Mutton Kulambu.Non-Vegetarians can substitute the mushroom with mutton. The recipe that I had explained below has been referred by one of my neighbour and a good friend named Priya. This recipe is of Coimbatore Style of grinding the shallots. It tastes too good with hot steamed rice. And the aroma...Hmmmmh..Need to cook it and experience it......

Mint-Coriander Rice

I hated this green rice until i learnt this method from one of my friend at Erode. There is a little difference when we add shallots to it..The whole taste gets changed and it doesn't taste like a rice mixed with Coriander/Mint  chutney. Most of the kids are hesitant towards the green leaves and this is the best way to make kids eat. They are very colourful, attractive and also tastes very good. They are the best lunch box items to be packed for ur hubby n children. This particular rice comes on my  dining table atleast once in 10 days.
