Fish Fingers/Fish sticks




Name a non-vegetarian who hates to have crispy fish finger!!! Can never spot such a one!!Fish fingers dipped in tomato sauce or white sauce is an exotic combination to have..Kids will love to have this homemade version of fish fingers as they are crispy and tasty..This is an apt holiday dish for the kids...U can mix everything, freeze it overnight and can fry it the next day...They are made with simple ingredients but it tastes so heavenly as if it had  some exotic ingredients added to it!!

INGREDIENTS:
 
250 gms of boneless fish(preferably the king fish/Vanjiram/Sheela)
1/2 Tsp of pepper powder
2 Tsp of ginger garlic paste
1/2 Tsp of Chilli powder
1/4 Tsp of Fennel powder(Optional)
1/4 Tsp of Turmeric powder
1 Tbsp of Tomato sauce
salt to taste
1 Tbsp of Vinegar
2-3 Tbsp of Maida/Cornflour or 1 egg white
1 Tbsp of Maida(to mix with bread crumbs)
3/4 to 1 Cup of Bread Crumbs
Oil to deep fry
 
PROCEDURE:

 
 
Clean the fish.Drain off the water.
Take the flesh part alone.Mash it with the hand masher or in a mixie.
Mash it in such a way that no lumps remain.
See to it that there is no bones in it.
Select a fish which has more flesh and very less bones.Fish varieties like Sheela/Vanjiram/King/Seer can be used.
 
Then add chilli powder,pepper powder,turmeric powder,salt,ginger garlic paste,fennel powder,tomato sauce,vinegar and mix well.
Then roll it into finger shapes.Don't worry if the shape is not coming good..We can shape it correctly when we roll it on bread crumbs
In a small bowl mix Corn flour with little water.See to it that the consistency is little thin.(If u are using egg white then beat the egg white nicely and use it to coat around the fish fingers).
 
 
In a wide plate mix 1 Tbsp of maida with the bread crumbs.
Now dip the finger shaped fishes into the maida/Cornflour batter.Then roll it with bread crumbs.
 
 
When rolling in the bread crumbs adjust the shape of the fish fingers.
Keep the rolled ones in the fridge for minimum 15-20 minutes .U can also keep it overnight.
Shallow fry the fish fingers and serve it hot with tomato sauce/White sauce/Sweet chilli sauce
 
 
 
 
Handy Tips:
 
  • Instead of shallow fry, it can be baked in oven too.
  • Instead of coating with bread crumbs, oats powder can be used as a coating
  • Instead of mashing the fish,if the fish is in large size, then u can cut them into finger size and marinate them with the mentioned ingredients for few hours and proceed with the same process explained above.
  • While washing the fishes u can add little turmeric powder and lemon to remove the bad odour from the fish..
