Simple Egg curry

This dish comes in handy when I run out of vegetables. They taste exotic with a simple rasam sadham..After transferring the dish to the serving bowl, don't forget to add some rice to the pan in which u had cooked, mix with the gravy left in the pan..Just have the mixed rice....We refer it as Vanali sadham (The pan in which it is cooked is called Vanali)It is the most delicious food I can say...Don't miss it...

This is a simple sidedish that can be made in a jiffy...

Pepper Kuzhambu/Milagu Kuzhambu

Milagu Kuzhambu...This is the first dish that I learnt after my marriage..HH's grandma used to make it very often at home. They taste very good with a simple sutta appalam or a simple Vegetable Kootu.I make it in such a way that it lasts for a week.I use it whenever I find lazy to cook..So this serves me as a super saver pack...

Though it tastes little spicy...the pepper spicyness will give u a nice taste to the throat. As pepper is added it is definitely a medicinal Kuzhambu and tastes very good when u have cold and cough..

Vellai Poori---My grandma's way..North Arcot Special..

The name and the colour of the dish has no relation, but I don't know why they named it so.May be because rice is the main ingredient they would have named it as Vellai Poori. This is one of the snack that is made in the evenings. It is quite heavy snack and one can take only 2.

Being brought up in the North Arcot District of TamilNadu I always have a deep love for the food items that are special there. To name some : Brinjal Serva,Maccan Beda,Arcot Biriyani,Vadaicurry,Vellai Poori etc..I had never heard people making this vellai poori either in places near Salem/Erode/Coimbatore/Tirunelveli/Madurai.So I thought posting this dish is a special one to my blog.

So I requested my mother to make this Poori. She makes it so tasty and yummy. She had learnt it from her grandma. This is the only snack which my father loves the utmost..Even now when we make it at home we miss our dad..and this is the only reason for which I hardly make this snack at home..For the sake of posting it in my blog I made few pooris..

Chettinad Meen Varuval(Pomfret fry)

Being in Tuticorin the only advantage that I have is to enjoy fresh seafoods..We get all kinds of seafoods that too fresh..I started tasting this pomfret only after coming to Tuticorin. The white pomfrets are too tasty than the black ones..The taste is unexplainable. It goes very well with a simple rasam  /  Tomato RasamPepper Rasam or a sambar sadham.

The one that is mentioned below is chettinad style of frying the fish

Shahi Paneer

Paneer is my family's favourite item and they finish it off with no complaints.I had already posted many paneer side dishes like Paneer Do Pyaza,Butter Paneer masala,Palak Paneer,Mutter paneer masala,Paneer Jalfrezi etc.In this lane here adds the shahi panner which is a slight variation with the paneer butter masala.
They both taste little bit same except the fact that paneer butter masala tastes little sweet than the shahi paneer.

Try out this paneer sidedish which tastes very good with a simple roti..

Ammini Kozhukattai(Spicy version)

Wishing the readers a very happy
Ganesh Chaturthi....

Kozhukattais are one which I loved to have at any time.As they are steam cooked they don't impart any harm to our diet system...This Ammini Kozhukattai is the regular one which we take as dinner/Breakfast/Snacks.We don't make it on Ganesh Chaturthi as it consumes more time...I make it for a evening snack/Dinner.

My daughter named it as koli(Marble) kozhukattai as it looked like marbles. It is also called as mini kozhukattai. My mom used to make these when the dough gets remained after making the stuffed modak. When pooran Modaks are there we hardly take these ammini kozhukattais..

I love the texture of the kozhukattais. These ammini kozhukattais look very appealing and attract the kids much..

Paal Kozhukattai-Chettinad Delicacy...The traditional way...

This is the post which I wanted to post it for long time. This dessert is my favourite one.Usually I don't take much of sweets and this dish is one exception. My mom makes it so good that u cannot stay without having it.This is one of the authentic dish that is prepared for any occasions.Though the process of making them is time consuming the taste it imparts cannot be described in few words..

So please try it and pass on the recipe to our future generations too.Let them be aware of some of the authentic dishes that our grandmas made for us!!

Thought ganesh Chaturthi is an apt occasion for me to post the Paal Kozhukattai recipe..Many of my readers had been asking for a long time to post the recipe..

Nellikai Thayir pachadi/Gooseberry Raita/Amla Raita

Curd/Yogurt is one of the main item without which my family cannot survive.I can manage my cooking if I have curd at home. All of us take it for Idly,Dosa and for all the breakfast items..And a simple curd rice with a pickle is more than sufficient for my family to make my members happy.

So most of the time I make raitas for roti and make my cooking time short. In this regard the most common raita during hot climate is the gooseberry/Amla Raita. It serves as a coolant for the body and the dish also tastes very delicious.
I usually grind the coconut and the green chillies mixture and preserve them in the freezer for later use of other types of raitas..
