Capsicum Cheese paratha

Cheese and capsicum go very well with each other.Added to it both the ingredients are kids favourite items too. When I was going through the Tarla Dalal's recipes I came across this recipe in her magazine"Cooking and more".I tried it and kids loved to have it for the lunch. These types of parathas make my job little bit easier too..

For the recipe click the link below

INGREDIENTS:

Recipe Source:Tarla Dalal
Makes:5 Nos.

For the dough:
1 Cup of Whole Wheat flour
1 Tsp of Oil
Salt to taste
Water to mix.

For the stuffing:

3/4 Cup of finely chopped capsicum/Bell pepper
1/3 Cup of grated cheese
1/2 Tsp of Chilli Powder
1/2 Tsp of Coriander powder
1/4 Tsp of Chaat masala (Optional-I didn't use it)

 For rolling and cooking:

Whole wheat flour for rolling
Oil for cooking

PROCEDURE:

Take the wheat flour in the mixing bowl.
Add a tsp of oil and salt to it.Mix it well.
Then add water little by little.

Make it into a Soft Dough.Knead well, cover it and keep it aside for 20 minutes.
Then deseed the capsicum.U can take single colour capsicum too.I wanted them to be colourful. So I took 3 colours of capsicum.
Chop them finely.

I used a chopper to chop the vegetables finely.Instead u can finely chop it using a knife. But see to it that it doesn't get watery. If so squeeze out the water and use it for making soup.
Grate the cheese and keep it aside.

In another mixing bowl add the chopped capsicum, grated cheese, chilli powder,Coriander powder, chaat masala(if u are using)

Mix it well.
Make it into small balls which is used as a stuffing for the paratha.

Take a small ball of chappathi dough.Flatten it.
Inside it keep the cheese-capsicum mixture.

Fold it and roll them in the shape of parathas.(Picture is missing!!)

Heat a tava.Toast the paratha on both the sides on the tava by adding a tsp of oil/Ghee.

HANDY TIPS:

  • Chop the capsicum finely. If it is watery then squeeze out the water.(U can reserve the water for making some other dish too).If u don't squeeze the water ,it will be hard to roll the parathas.
  • On putting the parathas on the tava cheese will tend to melt. But it hardens when removed from the tava.
  • U can add garam masala powder too in the stuffings.
  • Instead of cheese u can add grated paneer too.
  • While rolling the parathas dust them with maida/Wheat flour to get a nice shape.
  • If u had made the stuffings already and if parathas are to made after some time then leave the stuffing balls in the fridge.Or else cheese will start melting!!
  • Instead of chilli powder u can use pepper powder or chilli flakes too.
