Raw mango Rice/maangai Sadham

Last week we visited our home town and got home lots of mangoes from our garden..The mangoes were very fresh and I wanted to make some rice out of it.I remembered my mother serving me this rice when I was pregnant. So i thought I can make it now and pass it to one of my friend who is pregnant..

This rice tastes very delicious with the crunchy dhals, cashews and groundnuts inbetween the sour taste of the raw mango..A very simple dish to make during this mango season..So make this and enjoy the mango season.

PROCEDURE:

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE:

Peel the raw mango's skin.Grate the mango.I used the small holed grater as I don't like mango grates in between the rice..If u love the crunchy taste of mango between the rice then grate it in bigger holed grater.
Cook rice so that the rice don't get mashed and they stay apart.Add a tsp of oil when u cook the rice. This enables the rice grains staying unsticky.I used raw rice for this rice.U can use any type of rice but see to it that u cook the rice in such a way that the cooked grains don't get mashed.

Heat oil in a pan.Add channa dhal/Bengal gram/Kadalai paruppu and cashewnuts and fry them.
Add them to the cooked rice
In the same pan add little oil and then add mustard seeds, urad dhal,Dry red chillies, curry leaves, hing one after another.

Add the tempered items also to the cooked rice.
In the same pan add little oil and saute the grated mango along with turmeric powder till the raw smell of mango goes.
Then add that too to cooked rice.
Then add required amount of salt and mix the rice well.Roasted groundnuts can also be added finally.
Adjust the spicyness and salt according to the sourness of the mango.
If the dish is very sour then increase the spicyness. If it is too spicy then add little more salt to equate the spicyness..

Mix well serve it with pappad or with potato stir fry.
